Walk About Italy: Italy, the way we live it

Walk About Italy was born from a simple idea: the most meaningful way to discover Italy is not by rushing from sight to sight, but by slowing down, walking, tasting, meeting people, and staying in places with a real sense of character.

For more than two decades, we have been creating walking journeys led by Italians who know these regions from the inside. We do not believe in generic tours or experiences built only around famous landmarks. We believe in the Italy that still lives behind a small trattoria door, in a family-run vineyard, along a quiet country trail, in a historic town at dusk when day-trippers have gone home.

Our tours are designed for travelers who want beauty, but also depth. Yes, you will see iconic places. But just as importantly, you will meet the people who give those places meaning: winemakers, cooks, cheesemakers, olive oil producers, artisans, nature guides, and local hosts. These encounters are not extras. They are the heart of the journey.

Walking is our way into Italy. Not extreme trekking, not performance hiking, but gentle and rewarding walks that let you notice the landscape, the rhythm of village life, the scents of the countryside, the changing colors of vineyards, olive groves, coastlines, and mountain valleys. We walk to understand a place better — and to earn each meal in the most enjoyable way.

guides

Our guides are a fundamental part of who we are. They are Italians, licensed professionals, and deeply connected to the places they lead. Each brings personal knowledge, warmth, and a different perspective, whether in art, history, nature, food culture, or local traditions. What unites them is the same philosophy: to make Italy feel personal, generous, and real.

Food and wine are never secondary in our tours. They are one of the main ways we tell the story of a region. A farmhouse lunch in Tuscany, anchovies in Cetara, pesto in Liguria, alpine cheeses in the Dolomites, handmade orecchiette in Puglia, seafood and granita in Sicily — every region has its own voice, and we want you to taste it where it truly belongs.

comfy hotels

At the same time, comfort matters. We choose charming hotels with personality, places that feel welcoming rather than anonymous, and as often as possible in or near historic centers, so that after a day in the countryside you can still enjoy an evening stroll, an aperitivo, or a quiet wander on your own.

This is our philosophy in one sentence: authentic Italy, at a human pace, guided by locals.
