Sicily is not just an island — it’s a world of its own. Greek temples rise beside Baroque palaces, fishermen mend nets in tiny harbors while volcanoes smolder on the horizon. On this walking journey, we explore the quieter eastern side of the island, away from the crowds: Siracusa’s Ortigia, the golden streets of Noto, and the enchanting Aeolian Islands. A quick stop in Taormina. After all, how could we skip the majestic vibe of its Greek Theater?
We walk through nature reserves where flamingos glide over saltwater lagoons, climb the crater of Vulcano, and wander Lipari’s cobbled alleys. Every day is also a feast: farm lunches under olive trees, pane cunzato seasoned with anchovies and capers, sweet cannoli filled with ricotta, and local wines poured generously.
This is Sicily off the beaten path — where the land, the people, and the food tell stories you’ll never forget.

A coastal walk through Vendicari reveals flamingos, ancient tuna fisheries, and Mediterranean scrubland. Lunch is at a farm where olive oil, vegetables, and wine come straight from the land. In the afternoon, we admire the honey-colored Baroque of Noto, with time for gelato or granita before returning to Siracusa. Dinner on your own in town with lots of places to choose from.
We reach Taormina, perched above the sea, where our walk offers stunning views of Mt. Etna and the Ionian coast. We stroll Corso Umberto and the ancient theater before heading to Milazzo and boarding the hydrofoil to Lipari. Dinner at our hotel by the sea.
A panoramic hike reveals vistas over the island of Vulcano, through Mediterranean shrubs and villas. In the afternoon, we explore Lipari town and its hilltop castle. Dinner is relaxed and festive: a pizza feast on the main street of Lipari.
We cruise to Vulcano and hike to its smoking crater (optional easier stroll for those who prefer). From the rim, we gaze over the Aeolian archipelago. Lunch is rustic: pani cunzato, bread seasoned with anchovies, capers, tomatoes, and mozzarella. Afternoon at leisure in Lipari; dinner is on your own.
We cruise to Salina Island, lush and green. A bus takes us to Leni, where we begin a ridge walk with sweeping views of the Aeolian chain — Alicudi, Filicudi, Stromboli on the horizon. an al-fresco surprise lunch! Back in Lipari, we celebrate our last night with a farmhouse dinner of Aeolian specialties.

Sicily…..what a fabulous experience
Sicily walking tour was perfect way to see much of the east coast and gorgeous Aolian islands (Lipari and Salina). The walking is always pleasant and not arduous. Each dinner, walk, hotel or experience is carefully chosen by Gianni and his guides. Many just wouldn’t be possible to organise without local expertise. On Lipari we had such a special dinner in a farmhouse overlooking the sea at sunset prepared by a local young chef…..highly recommended small group tour! Almost all of our group had done other walks with Walk About italy…obviously a very good sign!

Another Great Trip!
I love Sicily and I appreciate Walk About Italy for taking me to less visited places! Great itinerary! We were able to have a BBQ at a stop along the hiking trail, a feast at the home of a chef at a remote location on Lipari Island. Gianni does a great job of including special opportunities for his guests such as this. Loved the hotels, food, transport and guides. Our guide Ermes, native of Sicily, was informative and a lot of fun. Gianni later joined us as well. The only thing better than one Italian guide is two! This was my 4th trip with this company and another is scheduled for May, so they must be doing something right!

This is really worth it!
I've done a few walks with Walk About Italy (Gianni) before : Tuscany, Amalfi and last month Sicily. I'm never disappointed! How wonderful is it to have everything organised for you, from transport everyday, to beautiful walks and very knowledgable guides, to the most delicious food and wine! I can just relax and enjoy every single moment. Loved the hotels! Loved making new friends, and above all, love Gianni's sense of humour, and friendliness.

WALK ABOUT ITALY - SICILY TOUR
I can really recommend the Sicily walk having just returned after a walking tour with 6 other couples, all friends of ours. The walks were just strenuous enough to know that you earned the spectacular lunch that was to come, but not difficult by any means. It was particularly hot our first three days with the Sirocco winds blowing, but each day we got to have a swim in the sea or a river - so that was very welcome. This was my second experience with Walk About Italy, having done Tuscany in 2019 with another group of friends - all girls that time. Sicily was different to Tuscany, as it should be, but no less enjoyable. I loved learning the history of the places we visited, which you wouldn't get by visiting these places without an informed guide. We were fortunate to have Gianni for the entire tour and he manages to impart all his knowledge in a fun way The food was spectactular and the hotels really good Highly recommended

Best walking tours of Italy
Gianni’s walks are absolutely fantastic. We have done Tuscany, Amalfi and Sicily and all three have exceeded expectation. Hotels are fabulous, food is amazing, walking and experiences all well chosen and interesting and all guides are just amazing. They are all extremely knowledgeable, very entertaining and pay a lot of individual attention to their guests. Would do these trips over and over again

Best experience of Italy
This was our second tour with Gianni. We did the 8 day tour of Tuscany 2 years ago and just spent time with Gianni touring around Sicily. His tours are exceptional. Not only will you have some amazing hikes with beautiful views, but these tours will help you to experience the food, the wine, the culture, the history and the people of Italy. it is the most complete overview of Italy that you could expect. The time spent on these tours will help you understand what Italy is all about and when you are done, you will fall in love with Italy and the people of Italy. I would highly recommend a tour with Walk About Italy. We will be calling Gianni again the next time we return to Italy.
